| The
name Chicago is thought to come from the Algonquian word "Chicagou"
meaning strong or powerful. Some early Frenchmen believed that the
name was derived from the Algonquian word for "onion place"
because wild onions grew there.
Better
known to the locals as the cold Chi ('shy'), the Chi, or the Windy
City. Home of 'da Bears, Quincy Jones, and the house that Jordan
built.
