| Charlotte
was named for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George II. The only battle
ever fought in Charlotte left General Cornwallis defeated. He called
the city a 'hornet's nest of rebellion', hence the name given to the
city's former NBA franchise. Charlotte is also the second-largest
banking center in the United States. |
